Any seasoned homeowner will tell you that maintenance is one of those things that comes with the territory of being a homeowner. If you want to keep a home in good condition and avoid repairs that are more costly than necessary, it’s not something you can afford to leave undone. Not all home maintenance should be done at just any time of the year, however. Some tasks are best done during the warmer months of the year, including the following!
Your driveway experiences a fair amount of stress on a regular basis. Just think about how much weight it handles when you drive over it or park cars on it. Add to that the natural weathering that happens due to wind, sun, rain, and more on a constant basis, and it makes sense that you would need to do some maintenance periodically. Paving or adding sealant to your driveway is generally best done during warmer months. Ideally, you should be experiencing temperatures around 70 F when paving an asphalt driveway for a good pour.
The colder months can really take a toll on a roof, especially if it’s been a rough winter. The warmer months are the ideal time to tackle repairs that winter weather made necessary. It’s also a good time to prepare for the winter to come. Roofing jobs are harder during the winter because of temperatures and weather conditions. No one wants to be out on a roof when it’s cold and wet. It’s just not safe. Warmer, dryer weather is pretty much always going to be better.
There are plenty of benefits to having a deck, but you won’t get a chance to really enjoy them if you aren’t able to keep it in good condition. The warm summer months are often a great time to take a good look at the condition of your deck. Hammer down any protruding nails, sand as needed, and apply a layer of stain or sealant. That will help protect your deck from unnecessary damage and make it more comfortable for you to use.
It’s always a good idea to think about when different home maintenance tasks are best undertaken. Things like driveway paving, roof repair, and deck maintenance are just a few examples of things that are best left to warmer weather. Keep up on these and other important warm weather tasks so your home will be ready to handle the winter’s chill.
