It will soon be time for strings of colorful lights and colder temperatures. Fall is here! Learn how to prepare your backyard for Winter this year.

🏊‍♀️ Swimming Pool & Hot Tub Care

Swimming pools and hot tubs are great to have during the summer, but you don’t suddenly get to stop caring for them when autumn arrives. You want to keep falling leaves out of your pool and continue to periodically clean it and check the pH level of the water.

Hot tubs also need care whether you use them in the cooler months or not. In order to keep everything clean and properly sanitized, it’s important to drain and add new water to your spa every three months as well as put a protective cover on it when it’s not in use.

The Richmond area sees its fair share of cold weather during the winter, so it’s best to drain your pool until warmer weather comes back around.

🏞️ Outdoor Furniture Care

There will likely be plenty of pleasant fall days and nights when you want to lounge on outdoor furniture and enjoy the weather. However, it’s less pleasant to spend time outdoors when the air turns icy and snow adds an unwelcome extra blanket.

Snow can do a lot of damage to outdoor furniture, making it unusable for the following year. It’s best to start storing your furniture away to await the return of pleasant weather, whether that’s in a storage unit, garage, or basement.

If you are able to leave your furniture outside, make sure to clean it often to keep dirt and leaves away. Follow instructions for cleaning according to the type of material your furniture is made of. It’s also a good idea to take cushions indoors if your area experiences a lot of precipitation during the cooler seasons.

☃️ Prepare Winter Decor

Few things are as miserable as hanging Christmas lights in freezing weather. Autumn is the perfect time to start prepping your winter decor before the snow is on the ground and you’re starting to weigh the pros and cons of not decorating this year.

You don’t have to turn on the Christmas lights yet — just put them in place while you can still feel your fingers. If you want some seasonal ambiance to last through fall, use that outlet for some shatter-proof lights hung from the top of your patio. Wreaths are also a quick way to transition your decor through the seasons.

❄️ Winter Ready Backyard!

Fall is a time of transition into winter, and winter can arrive on faster than we realize. Don’t put off your tasks until there’s a forecast for snow tomorrow. Take care of furniture, pools, and decor right now to make sure everything looks perfect.
