When trying to buy or sell a home, the process is made far easier if you choose to work with a real estate agent. Of course, that means you then need to choose a real estate agent to work with. There are several qualifications you should look for as you search. These qualifications will let you know that you are in good hands.

A State License

The very first thing you should look for is a real estate agent who has a state license to actually practice real estate. Many states require those going through a real estate licensing program to complete over 100 hours of training and education before they are allowed to take the licensing exam. By having a license, you know that your real estate agent has put in the work and that they know what they’re doing and how they can help you. Additionally, licensed agents also have access to more listings, and they have many other connections as well. Keep in mind that licensing laws vary by state. Some licenses will carry over but there are states that require real estate agents to get a new license. Try to find an agent with a license that is valid in your state.

Knowledge of the Market

If you want to find what you’re looking for, you need an agent who is familiar with the market. This type of agent should be aware of current trends in the area as well as the demographics and the local economy. When interviewing realtors, make sure you discuss this with them. Ask them what they know about the area, how long they’ve been there, and what they’ve done to familiarize themselves with the market. It’s important for you to ask lots of questions upfront so you know you’ve found the right realtor. A real estate agent who is familiar with the market will do a better job of helping you buy or sell.

Positive Reviews

It is a part of a realtor’s job to market homes, so that means they also know how to market themselves. As you look for an agent, make sure you look into their previous work. Start off by looking at reviews former clients have left. You want to find a realtor who has largely positive reviews. If there are negative reviews, make sure you determine whether they are about the realtor themselves and not the overall process of buying and selling.

Buying or selling a home is a big step and you want to make sure you have someone to guide you along the way. Don’t be afraid to take some time in choosing a realtor. You want someone qualified who can provide the best help.
